Wall lizards from Holland

Yesterday I took some pictures of wall lizards in Utrecht. They live in the middle of the city in it's botanic gardens. They are far from uncommon over there!

Bobby,
sorry, I found your messeage not until today. The pictures give the impression that the population is of Italian origin, namly from the eastern Po plain area. Do you know the history of this population? The origin could only be verified by genetic investigations. Would it be possible to get a small piece of tail (in 70% Ethanol)?

Hallo Werner,

I have heard that they are from Italy like you say and are Podarcis muralis maculiventris. It is said that an terrariumkeeper released also a small numer of Podarcis muralis nigriventris, so there could be hybrids as well.
A small piece of a tail is going to be difficult. It's very difficult to capture them and I'd rather not harm these animals.

Kind regards,

Bobby
